Traditionally a fungal nail infection was diagnosed by sending a nail clipping off to a microbiology lab for testing. The lab test alone can take up to 4 weeks. We are pleased to introduce a new technique which can detect the presence of fungal nail infection in just 5 minutes!
Rapid results in just 5 minutes
No need to wait for a GP appointment to send clippings to a lab and then wait some more…
Scientifically proven to give 97% accurate results- compared to the 46%-54% accuracy using the traditional lab route
Immediate and accurate diagnosis- allowing you to start the right treatment straight away
Test can be used even if you are currently using an anti-fungal treatment
Do I need a fungal nail test?
Before starting any treatment, it is important to make sure that you have an accurate diagnosis. Not all thickened or crumbling nails have a fungal nail infection. Using an antifungal treatment on a nail that does not have a fungal infection can make your symptoms worse. It may also mean that you are spending time and money on treatments that may not give you the results you want.
How do I book a fungal nail test?
Existing Patients- if you are already a patient of the Wessex Foot Clinic, we can take a cutting from your nail during any routine chiropody appointment. If you would like to have a fungal nail test, please tell us at the time of booking your appointment, so that we can have everything ready for you prior to your arrival.
New Patients- you do not need to be a patient at the Wessex Foot Clinic in order to have the fungal nail test. We are able to perform the nail test as a separate appointment.
